Jimmy "Dale" Shanks, 76, of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
He was born July 9, 1946 to Merle Judge and Stella Mae (Poteete) Shanks. He attended public school and later joined the military as a member of the United States Army. He earned a Bronze Star medal and the Purple Heart along with others for his service during the Vietnam era. After his honorable discharge, he worked the Alaskan and Australian pipeline until he started his own business, Shanks Excavating. He was awarded contracts at Tinker Air Force Base and then at Sequoyah Fuels. He took great pride in his work and valued a strong work ethic. Dale married Hannah Wiley on May 1, 2002. They shared more than 20 years of life and marriage together. They were soul mates and business partners.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Stella Shanks; brothers, David Shanks and Tim Shanks; twin sister, Gale Scotch; and his son, Tony Ray Shanks.
Dale is survived by his loving wife, Hannah, of the home; daughter, Misty Shanks and husband Tylor of Gore; son, James Shanks of the home; stepdaughter, Paula Girty and husband Rodney of Gore; 6 grandchildren- Kelsey, Raven, and Melissa Girty, Toni, Hayven, and Hindler Shanks; brothers, Jerry Shanks of Eustace, TX, Gary Shanks and wife Jackie of Webbers Falls, Johnny Shanks and wife Elsie of Muskogee; sisters, Nancy Caves and husband Joe, Jeanie Pierce and husband John, all of Allen, TX; the Wardens adopted family of many years; along with other family members and friends.
A celebration of Dale's life will be at 2PM, Monday, February 27, 2023 at Green Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Dunn officiating.
Interment will follow at Vian Garden of Memories with Cindy Irwin, Cory Cauthon, Tylor Jackson, Steven Shanks, Rodney Girty and Fonzi Shanks serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hedigar, Robin McDaniels, Carey Finney, and Ed Jones.
