TAHLEQUAH — Edward Byers, Sr., age 81, of Harrah, was born Nov. 25, 1928 in Cherokee County, Tahlequah. He was the son of Nicodemus and Charlotte (Pigeon) Byers. He left this life on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, in Midwest City.
Ed and Ida were married on Oct. 22, 1955, in Tulsa. He worked as a rigger for OG&E, retiring after 22 years. Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved playing dominoes and watching his grandkids play ball.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joe and Charlie, two sisters, Fannie and Lillie, one granddaughter, Alexa, and two great-grandchildren, Shianne and Jada.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Byers of Harrah; two sons and daughter-in-law, Ronnie Byers, and Bo and Debbie Byers, all of Harrah; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Randy Holbrook of Choctaw, and Pitsie and Chuck Henkel of Harrah; five sisters, Nancy Hatley of Oklahoma City, Annabell Silk of Cookson, Betty Lowery of Cookson, Virginia Heist of Tahlequah, and Regina Leep of Muskogee; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah, with Rev. Kathy Longhat officiating. Interment followed at 3 p.m. at Barnoskie Cemetery in Vian. Services are under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service in Harrah. A guestbook is available to share memories online. Please visit www.smithparks.com.
