SSG John Glen Doles - Age 29
SSG John Glen Doles born June 6, 1976 Phoenix, Arizona. Died September 30, 2005 Afghanistan. Graduated 1994 Chelsea, High School Chelsea, Oklahoma.
SSG John Glen Doles fought in combat in both Iraq and Afghanistan and was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He graduated from Airborne School, Air Assault School, Ranger School, the Primary Leadership Development Course and the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course.
In 2000, he was assigned to Fort Benning, Georgia for Basic Training and Airborne School. From 2001 to 2003, he was assigned to Fort Polk, Louisiana as a member of B Company 1-509th Infantry (Airborne) OPFOR at the Joint Readiness Training Center. On March 26, 2003, he parachuted into Iraq as a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade in the largest Combat Jump since World War II. From 2003 to 2005, he was assigned to Vicenza, Italy as a squad leader in B Company 1-508th Infantry (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Global War of Terror Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal with Arrowhead Device, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Parachutist Badge with Combat Star and the Air Assault Badge.
John loved his time in the Army and was planning to Re-Enlist as soon as he was able.
Survived by wife: Heather (Jenkins) Doles Heather’s mother and his Father-In-Law Randy and Sherry Dyer-Maggard Son- Logan Doles of Vicenza, Italy Daughter- Breanna Doles of Vicenza, Italy Brother-In-Law Chris Jenkins and wife Angie Parents: Father Gene Doles of Chelsea, Oklahoma Mother Susan Appleman of Colorado Springs, Alaska Step Mom- Sonja Doles of Chelsea, Oklahoma Step Dad- James Appleman of Colorado Springs, Alaska Grandparents: Mattie Ann Kay of California Richard Kay of Arizona Racene Hallock of Claremore, Oklahoma and late Glen Hallock Brothers and Sisters: Curtis Young and wife Patti of Tulsa, Oklahoma Skyler Doles of Claremore, Oklahoma Chris Doles of Tulsa, Oklahoma Tonya Clutter of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Step Sisters and Brothers: Kim Honeycutt, Bixby, Oklahoma Lee Cody of Mounds, Oklahoma Eddie Lutsko of Owasso, Oklahoma, Tiffany Gross & Josaqa Appleman Many nieces and nephews, And a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service: 2:00 Tuesday, October 11th at First Christian Church in Chelsea. Burial with full Military Honors provided by Ft. Sill Honor Guard will follow at the Dawes Cemetery near Chelsea, Oklahoma.
