October 4, 1933 - March 3, 2025
Services to remember and celebrate the life of Joan Collier will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2025, in the chapel at DeLozier Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Dawes Cemetery in Chelsea, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Ed. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-6 at the funeral home with family there to receive visitors. Joan left her temporary earthly home for her permanent heavenly home on Monday, March 3, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was 91.
Born in Claremore, OK along with her twin brother Johnny Jones on October 4, 1933. Joan was one of six children gifted to Bill and Alice (Riley) Jones. On October 17, 1951, in Claremore, OK Joan married the love of her life Edmond James Collier. Their marriage was blessed with 5 children, Jim, Janella, Lou, Tina, and Dedee. Never working outside her home, Joan devoted her whole life to caring for her husband and children.
Everything about Joan was simple and her greatest pleasures came from the simple things of life. Studying God's Word daily Joan led her family as a true Proverbs 31 woman. She instilled God's Word in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. Her days always started with coffee and ended with coffee and Joan was always quick to point out when it was brewing how much she liked the smell. Her days were filled with cooking for her family and each of her children were quick to point out their favorites. Joan was known for her yeast bread, biscuits and gravy, chicken and dumplings and even popcorn balls. She had a good sense of humor and enjoyed filling a room with laughter. Her children did point out that she could be somewhat of a brat if she chose to. In later life Lucky Charms cereal was her favorite meal and sometimes that was 3 times a day and then it was topped off with a payday candy bar (her favorite).
When free time did present itself, Joan had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. She had a God given talent when it came to music. Joan could play almost any instrument, and she loved to sing as well. This gift was passed down not only to her children but many of her grandchildren as well. Joan enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and sewing. According to her family she was an accomplished seamstress and made many of the clothes that she and her family wore. She was also known for her ability to make the cutest baby dresses and once again making her very own patterns to do it. Watching birds was one of her favorite past times and red birds were her favorite. Joan even raised finches for a period of time. Family time and family gatherings were always important to Joan, and some would say her smile was the brightest when all of her family was together.
A lady that has left a legacy that will live on for generations to come. This mother, granny, Mamoo, and friend is survived by her children, Jim Collier and wife Charlene, Janella Arthur, Lou Brown and husband Robert, Tina Duncan and husband Rex, Dedee Grigg and husband Denny, grandchildren, Eric Collier, Jamie Malone and husband BJ, Rebekah McDaniel and husband Dustin, Leah Collier, Neiel Magruder and husband Jeb, Sarah Ramsey and husband Jacob, Daniel Collier, Sherry Bell, Chester Arthur and fiance Nicole Seketa, Leslie Hardison and husband David, Regina Hennen and husband Robert, Tammi Goebel and husband Eddie, Trixi Asher and husband Tim, Ty Duncan, Terri Reynolds and husband Dustin, Dennis Grigg, 38 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren with one more on the way, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ed, granddaughter, Jessica Jones, great grandson, Caleb Collier, sisters, Marge Linchenburg, Dorothy Johnson, brothers, Tommy Jones, Ed Jones, and twin brother Johnny Jones.
