March 28, 1965 - January 22, 2025
Services to remember and celebrate the life of Randy Wayne Atchley will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in the gym at Foyil High School. Burial will follow at Dawes Cemetery in Chelsea. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 3-7 with family there to receive friends from 5-7. Randy passed away at his home in Chelsea, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 59.
Born in Claremore, OK on March 28, 1965, to Perry Rex and Dorothy Loraine (Padget) Atchley. Randy was raised in a strong Christian family and those values, and his faith have guided him throughout his life. He attended Chelsea Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1983. On January 13, 1996, in Claremore, OK, Randy married the love of his life Vicki Gorremans and they made their home in Chelsea. Randy was the proud father of one daughter Melissa and 2 grandchildren, Alan and Alyssa Majors. Following in his parents' footsteps Randy provided for his family working in the Chelsea School System as the Transportation Director. He then went on to pursue a career in law enforcement as a police office in Pryor and Chelsea ultimately being promoted to Chelsea Police Chief. In 1985 Randy joined the Foyil Volunteer Fire Department along with his brothers. He and his brothers remained actively involved in the Foyil Fire Protection District and celebrated, this year, 40 years of service to that community. At the time of his passing, he held the distinct honor of being the Fire Chief for Foyil.
For anybody that knew him or worked for him, Randy ran a tight ship and he expected everyone to do their best all the time. He was a man of his word and was respected and loved by his fellow firefighters. Everyone in the fire department knew Randy meant business when they were asked to do something and it was followed up by "sometime today would be nice". A man that wasn't shy, Randy would certainly let his opinion be known. He was up to date on current events and knew the background of most all the politicians in an elected position. Randy liked to talk politics and was animated in his views, and he always had a Biden joke up his sleeve.
A man that liked fishing with this daughter, hunting, trains, planes, and war history. According to his family Randy was addicted to "You Tube" spending countless hours watching videos on hay baling, history of war planes, types of trains, and RVing. When free time did present itself, Randy had two hobbies: traveling and custom hay baling. He was very proud of his John Deere Tractor and hay baler. When it came to travel, the Smokey Mountains were a favorite destination. He and wife Vicki took many memorable trips; a few of the favorites were to Yellowstone National Park, Grand Canyon, and The Everglades in Florida. Many wouldn't know this but Randy was afraid of heights and he was so proud when he climbed to the top of Clingman's Dome in the Smokey Mountains. Out of all their trips some of the most cherished memories for he and Vicki were the airboat ride through the Everglades and the night ceremony at Mount Rushmore, that they watched on their motorcycle in the snow.
Randy has spent his whole life making a difference for others. The well-being of the families he served was always put before his own. He loved his family. His brothers were also his best friends. Randy's last request of his family was to promise him they would keep on living their lives. He has left a huge footprint and legacy that will live on in the lives of his family and countless friends. This loving dad, son, brother, and husband is survived by his wife Vicki, daughter, Melissa Majors and husband Eric, grandchildren, Alan and Alyssa Majors, stepson Adam Calbreath and wife Joy, stepson Lucas Calbreath, brothers, Gary Atchley and wife Peggy, Perry Atchley and Kelly Walck, sister, Jolene Stritzke and husband Tom, and numerous nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, and extended family. Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Dorothy Atchley.
Randy's family would like to express their appreciation to all the area Fire Departments for their many acts of kindness.
