He is survived by five daughters, Jodi Mitcheltree of Sapulpa; Jamie McElroy of Mounds; Windy Alexander of Tulsa; Billie Jan Wright of Seminole; and Bobbie Jo Vincent of Shawnee. He had one sister, Jane Spring of Bixby; and two brothers, Jim Wheeler of Boynton; and Dr. Billy Wheeler of Muskogee. He is also survived by his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

The following information was printed in the Friday, October 5, 2001 edition of the Muskogee Paper.

Bobby Dean Wheeler, 61, a former teacher at West Junior High School, was found dead in a field north of Okmulgee on September 29, 2001.

"There was no signs of physical damage to the body." McCollum said. "He did not die of violent means."

Wheeler's body was found in some trees, just outside the city limits on an oil lease, McCollum said. It is believed that Wheeler's body was at the location from 2 1/2 to 3 weeks, he said.

"The cause of death would be nothing but an assumption at this time," McCollum said.

The state medical examiner's office in Tulsa is listing the cause and manner of death as pending. Some tests, inclding toxicology tests, won't be complete for several weeks, the investigator said.

There was no abandoned vehicle near the site and it is not known how Wheeler got to the area, McCollum said.
