Lahoma Sewell Wheeler was born July 8, 1917 in the Rankin/Reydon, Oklahoma area to Minnie and Ed Sewell.

She passed away January 27, 2004 in the Hemphill County Hospital, Canadian, Texas at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 19 days.

She grew up east of Reydon and graduated from Reydon High School in 1935.

She was married to Elmo Wheeler at Cheyenne, Oklahoma on October 9, 1937.

In the fall of 1939, they moved to Canadian, Texas.

After Elmo retired in 1968, they returned to Oklahoma and made their home east of Reydon on the Sewell homestead.

Lahoma was active in the extension homemakers club both in Reydon and Canadian.

She was concerned about her neighbors and community and kept everyone up to date with her weekly "Reydon News" article in the Cheyenne Star.

She was a very active member of Reydon First Baptist Church, where she loved working with the children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Jackson Sewell.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Reydon First Baptist Church.

The family greeted friends at the funeral home, Friday, January 30, 2004 from 2:00 till 5:00 p.m. Services were held Saturday January 31, 2004 at 11:00 am. at Reydon First Baptist Church, officiated by Kelly Smith. Burial was held at White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.

Survivors include two daughters Judy Wootton of Canadian, Texas; and Nancy Knauth of Round Rock, Texas; one son John Wheeler of Canadian, Texas; eight grandsons, Keith Lemons, Wade Lemons, Doug Wheeler, Monty Wheeler, Stacy Wheeler, Brandon Wheeler, Cody Chambers and Heath Chambers; one granddaughter Shannon Meadows; twenty great grandchildren; one brother, Gene Sewell of Cupertino, California; one nephew, Steve Sewell of St. Joseph, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Pat Murray and husband, Lee of Pampa, Texas; and a host of relatives and friends.
