Homer Sumpter was born October 4, 1919 in Stonewall, Oklahoma to Emerson Dozer and Myrtle May Martin Sumpter.
He passed away Monday, March 24, 2003 in his home in Duncan, Oklahoma at the age of 83.
Mr. Sumpter was a veteran of World War Ii and D-Day survivor, serving in the United States Army.
He was a retired farmer.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, officiated by a military chaplain. Services are under Don Granthan Funeral Home, Duncan, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Vicki Oleta Jackson and Virginia Ann Chishum; a half brother; two sisters a half sister; and three grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Alice Cline and Jolenda Sue Powers and Lydia Mattlage of Georgia; three sons, Gary Sumpter of New Mexico; Frank Sumpter of Texas; and Michael Sumpter Tucker serving in the military in Japan; three brothers, J. D. Sumpter of New Mexico; Jack Sumpter and Charles Sumpter of Oklahoma; and a sister, Jeannie O. Gillian of New Mexico; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; and numerous friends.
