Claus Henry Petersen © Cheyenne Star 19 May 1921 Submitted by: Wanda Purcell
Claus Henry Petersen was born in Schleswig, Holstein, Denmark.
On November 29, 1854, he was married to Maria L. Frank in 1880, and they came to America in 1888 with their four boys, Henry H., John N., Will H., and Thomas M., landing in New York on March 26; and settling near West Point, Nebraska where they lived four years. Next moving to Oklahoma City living there eleven years before homesteading in 1903, three and one-half miles west of Rankin.
Nearly two years ago he moved into Rankin where he died Wednesday night May 11, 1921, aged 66 years, 5 months and 12 days.
Mr. Petersen followed blacksmithing all his life until a stroke of paralysis in 1898, while living in Oklahoma City ended his active labor, but not his work. He was able to get around with a crutch, and when not suffering he was a good shoe cobbler, always cheerful and helpful to those about him.
Besides his widow and four boys mentioned above, he leaves to mourn his death, three daughters, Mrs. Anna Hutchans, Mrs. Maggie Vincent and Miss Augusta Petersen; fourteen grandchildren living in and around Rankin; and three brothers and one sister living in Nebraska; as well as numerous friends.
In early life he acknowledged Christ as his Saviour, becoming a member of the Lutheran Church.
Burial took place at the Rankin cemetery. {White Rose cemetery}.
