Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Marshall Henning was born August 5, 1937 on the Family
Farm four and a half miles west of Reydon, Oklahoma and died on March 3, 2026.
She was eighty-eight years old. Betty passed away peacefully surrounded by her
family at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. in White
Rose Cemetery in Roger Mills County Oklahoma.
A memorial service will be at a
later date. Betty Marshall Henning was the third child born to Jim and Annabell
Marshall.
Most of Betty’s formative years were shaped by living in post great
depression in historical Roger Mills County. While Betty lived many places, the
homestead on the edge of the Black Kettle National Grasslands was always her
heart; her home. Some of Betty’s first memories are of living off what the land
provided on their family farm. The days would start early and Betty would help
with household chores, baking bread, and the planning of the meals. By 9 am,
they would begin working on other essential chores like feeding the livestock,
milking the cows, working in the fields, washing laundry. Mondays were set aside
laundry. Families would race to see who could get the laundry out on the line
the fastest. Betty went to school in Allison Texas. Before electricity came to
the farm, Betty and her siblings would do their homework by an aladdin lamp on
the library table. The Marshalls were blessed to own their farm and found simple
pleasures in sharing ice cream with neighbors, sitting outside while Oklahoma
winds swept away the day, going to church, and spending Saturdays in Reydon.
Betty was very proud of her education at the Allison Independent School
District. She remembered fondly playing half-court basketball in high school.
Betty graduated in 1955 and was later married that same year to Reydon Graduate,
Ronald James Henning. Ronald and Betty traveled to Panhandle A&M where Ronald
continued to pursue his college degree. They lived in married housing and told
many tales of the great times they had with suite mates and friends. Betty
worked at various jobs to support family during Ronald’s moves to further his
education. She was always the foundation to the success of their family. Her
family was her greatest joy. She was always first to volunteer to sew choral
costumes, take field trips, and neighbor kids just seemed to find their way to
the home she created.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Helen Marie Marshall
Kirklin and Lilie Mae Marshall Teague, and her husband of sixty-nine years, Ron.
She is survived by her brothers, John Wildfred and James Tilden Marshall. She
has four children Jimmy Carrol (Faye), Ronald Milton (Robin), Stephen Andrew (Kerre),
and Lola Ann Henning West (Chris). She has seven grandchildren Anna (Nick),
Kristen (Chandler), Caleb (Hannah), Stephen, Amelia, Zachary, and Dominic and
six great grandchildren (Winston, Oakley, Elend, Jack, Bear, and Shep). Betty
was always happiest when she was playing games with family especially her
siblings, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Tiftarea Academy Science
Department, PO Box 10, Chula, 31733, attention Howard Duvall.
