Eugene Paul Estes was born June 8, 1910 in Verden, Oklahoma to Bertha and George Estes, and departed this life on June 4, 1997 in Harris Methodist Hospital, Fort Worth, Texas.

Gene spent his early years in Verden, Lindsey and Stillwater, Oklahoma before moving to Durham, Oklahoma in 1929 and then to Reydon, Oklahoma in 1931.

Gene was united in marriage to Berta Purcell on March 9, 1931 and enjoyed 66 wonderful years of marriage. To this union were born three children, Gordon Estes of Mobeetie, Texas; Karen Dudley of Waxahachie, Texas; and Gary Estes of Cleburne, Texas.

Gene was a retired rural mail carrier and rancher.

He was a member and was very active in Reydon United Methodist Church and was involved in many community activities in Reydon, and MRC, was a 32nd degree Mason. In addition, Gene was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion.

After retirement, Gene and Berta traveled with the Wally Byam Air Stream Club, and enjoyed traveling with friends, old and new, for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; one sister; one grandson and one great granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Berta of the home; one daughter Karen Dudley of Waxahachie, Texas; two sons and daughters in law, Gordon and Wanda Estes of Mobeetie, Texas and Gary and Mona Estes of Cleburne, Texas; one brother, Leon Estes of Victorville, California; ten grandchildren, Dianne and Greg Estes, Terri Spalenska, Tracy and Gary Estes II, Sheryl Estes, Brad and Marti Estes Early, Donna and Ray Estes, Richard and Jennifer Estes, Ray, Tammy and Jon Estes, Heather Dudley and Kara Dudley.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 1997 at the Reydon Community Building officiated by Rev. Marilyn Schelhlhamer.

Interment was in the White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
