Dr. Leonard Marvin Douglas, 60, former Director of Teacher Corps at New Mexico State University, died Saturday, January 16, 1971.
Funeral services were held in the Graham Mortuary Chapel at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday Rev. Robert Brooks of the University United Methodist Church officiated.
Burial was in White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, Thursday afternoon where Masonic graveside services were conducted.
Doctor Leonard and his wife, Bonnie Rose, were the recipients of a special dual award at the 1970 New Mexico Classroom Teachers annual banquet at the NEA-NM convention for their "outstanding and devoted services" and their unique example of a team effort to advance quality education in the classroom at all levels.
Born in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, Doctor Douglas was educated at a number of colleges and for two and one-half years served as Business Education Advisor to British Guiana to establish a Business Education Department at Goverment Techanical Institute.
He was a member of a number of professional organizations and the author of a number of books and publications.
In July, 1968, he became Director of Teacher Corps at New Mexico State and served in this capacity until his illness in July, 1970.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star at Silver City and a member of Phi Delta Kappa, an honorary fraternity.
He is survived by his widow, Bonnie; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Rose Rios of Las Cruces; and Mrs. Lynn Hartsell of Woedbride, England; a brother, Irs of Woodward, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Habeck of Reydon, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Vada Mitchell of Kansas City, Kansas; and one granddaughter.
