Jerry Don Burks was born April 6, 1959 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma to Janette and Sterling Leon Burks. He passed away December 21, 2015 at his home near Reydon, Oklahoma at the age of 56 years, 8 months and 15 days.

Jerry Don grew up in Stillwater, Oklahoma. After graduating from Stillwater High School in 1977, he moved to western Oklahoma to begin working in the oilfield. He was married to Peggy Burks at Sayre, Oklahoma on June 4, 1992. They lived in the Reydon area until settling northeast of town to make their home. Jerry Don worked in the oilfield as Roughneck until becoming a Compressor Mechanic. He later worked for 6 years as an Heavy Equipment Operator for Roger Mills District 3 until his health forced him to retire.

Peggy passed away in April of this year and he was also preceded in death by his father, wife, paternal grandparents, Paul and Dessie Burks and maternal grandparents, Cecil and Violet Bonds and stepfather, Carl Eugene Brown.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Heather Shaw and husband, Taylor, of Durham, Oklahoma and Elisabeth Burks of Reydon, Oklahoma; a grandson, Wiley Shaw; his mother, Janette Brown of Burns Flat, Oklahoma; a brother, Tom Burks and wife, Jill, and their, son, Drew, of Reydon, Oklahoma; 3 stepsisters, Teresa White of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Marsha Davenport of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Linda Peaden of Owasso, Oklahoma; his great aunts, Pat Burks and Clara Davis of Reydon, Oklahoma; his aunts and uncles, Colleen and Dale McKean of Carlsbad, New Mexico and Roberta Bonds of Sayre, Oklahoma; a cousin, Pam Burks of Reydon, Oklahoma; his mother-in-law, Thelma Baker of Crawford, OK and a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Donations to help the family with expenses can be made to the Jerry Burks Memorial Fund c/o the Security State Bank of Cheyenne.
