Effie C. Bird Bessire

Effie C. Bird Bessire was born November 1, 1906 in Rockhill, Texas to Annie and Daniel Washington Bird. She passed away August 3, 2001 in Roger Mills Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years 9 months and 2 days.

She was married to Eddie Louie Bessire at Reydon, Oklahoma on November 5, 1944.

She was a housewife and she was a member of the Reydon First Baptist Church. Effie loved her Lord and joined the Baptist Church at an early age.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and one son, Arnold Leroy Milner.

When Effie was a young lady her family moved to Wheeler County, Texas and later to Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.

She had four brothers, Everett, Orile, Lorell and D. W.; four sisters, Clara Bell Hickey, Lorene Hickey, Juretta Baker and Anna Lou Scrivner.

On December 17, 1927 she married T. R. Milner at Wheeler, Texas. Ted passed away April 21, 1937.

They had one son, Arnold Leroy, who was born June 6, 1929 and passed away November 6, 1992.

Effie and Eddie Bessire were married November 5, 1944.

They made their home in Reydon where they owned an operated the Bessire Grocery Store; they also purchased cream and eggs from local customers. Sometimes after they closed the store, they began working at the Reydon School as custodians. Then Eddie drove a bus and Effie cooked at the lunchroom. For many years, Effie took care of teacher's children. She dearly loved every one of them and they returned her love by keeping in touch with her long after they were grown.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Leatrice Milner of Grants, New Mexico; three sisters, Lorene Hickey of Bakersfield, California; Juretta and Roy Baker of Denver, Colorado; Anna Lou and John Scrivner of Reydon, Oklahoma; one brother, D. W. and Jean Bird of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three grandchildren, Cheryl and John Good of Weatherford, Texas; Jana and Gene Aragon of Grants, New Mexico; Keith and Lynn Milner of Las Vegas, Nevada; five great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; a loving nephew, Lynn Hickey; special friends, Claude and Georgia Sadler; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held Monday, August 6, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at Reydon First Baptist Church, officiated by Jim Gibhart.

Burial will be at White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
