David Lynn Barton was born March 4, 1958 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma to Charlotte and Robert Eugene Barton. He passed away at his home surrounded by family after a short battle with pancreatic cancer on August 26, 2011 at the age of 53 years, 5 months and 22 days.

David lived in Mangum before moving with his family to Reydon. He graduated from Reydon High School in 1976 and began working in the oilfield.

He was married to Verla Handke at Clinton, Oklahoma on April 6, 1977. They lived in Cheyenne and Rock Springs, Wyoming before returning to Reydon to make their home.

David continued working in the oilfield until 1986 and then worked for the US Forestry Service for several years before he began farming and ranching.

David's family was very important to him and he made the bond he shared with them a priority in his life.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father; one brother, Robert Eugene Barton II; and a sister, Eugenia Renee Barton.

He is survived by his wife, Verla of the home; his children, Chris Barton and wife, Janet of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Sarah Batterton and husband, Dustin of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Michael Barton and wife, Nicole of Sayre, Oklahoma; Zackary Barton of Norman, Oklahoma; five grandchildren and one on the way, Maddie McNeil, Trent Barton, Abbie Barton, Lane Batterton, and Owen Batterton; his mother, Charlotte Gregory of Reydon, Oklahoma; two sisters, Lana Stands of Montana; and Dianna Jo Keys of Reydon, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Reydon Community Building officiated by Lindy Sasser. Burial will be at White Rose Cemetery.
