James Thomas Rutledge was born October 22, 1849 in Jackson County, Tennessee and died August 30, 1939 in Strong City, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
James married Annie Merchant; she passed away April 8, 1892. They had six daughters, Minnie Rutledge Page; Ada Rutledge Laugaugh, Beulah Rutledge Musick, who died January 6, 1901; Sara Willie Rutledge Dean, Stella Rutledge Pasten; and Ruby Rutledge Scott.
James married Merilda Musick Price of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
Merilda was born in 1870, the daughter of Thomas M. and Mary Elizabeth Neal Musick. She died in 1924 in Strong City, Oklahoma.
They were the parents of five children, AnnieRutledge Sanford; Frank, born in 1906, died in 1928 buried in the Strong City cemetery; C. Norvall, born in 1910, died in 1937, buried in Strong City cemetery; Louisa Rutledge Stroud; and EthelRutledge Forster.
James married Mrs. M. Porter on October 11, 1934.
James was a farmer, carpenter, and blacksmith.
He was a private in the Texas State Trooper {Ranger} Indian War.
James Rutledge was born in Tennessee, October 29, 1939 and died on April 8, 1892 at the age of 90 years, 19 months and seven days.
He came to Indian Territory and married Annie Merchant.
She preceded him in death April 8, 1892. To this union six girls were born, Minnie Page of Lexington; Ada Labaugh of Stratford; Beulah Musick; who preceded him in death January 6, 1901; Willie Dean of Strong City; Stella Pasten of Lexington; and Ruby Scott of Moore, Oklahoma
. He was later married to Merilda Price of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. She also preceded him in death. To this union were born five children, three girls and two boys, three of which preceded him in death, Annie Sanford, Frank and Norvel Rutledge. Those who are living are Louisa Stroud of Leedey; and Ethel Forster of Los Angeles, California.
On October 11, 1934, he was united in marriage to Mrs. M. Porter, with whom he was living at the time of his death.
He leaves to mourn his wife; seven children; thirty six grandchildren; forty two great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ministers in charge of services were Rev. J. W. Carleton of Cheyenne; and Rev. Carl Mabra, pastor of the Baptist church at Strong City.
Burial in Strong City cemetery.
Tunnard's Funeral Home of Cheyenne was in charge.
