Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 6, 1942 for Larkin Augustus "Pete" Prestridge in Strong City.
Prestridge died as the result of injuries received when he fell to the floor in a Strong City garage last Friday.
He was 42 years of age and is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andew C. Prestridge of Strong City.
He was a cousin of O. R. Prestridge of Cheyenne.
Larkin Augustus Prestridge was born at Hewitt, Carter County, Oklahoma on May 3, 1899 and moved with his parents to Strong City, Oklahoma the same year, where he spent his entire life.
He was converted when he was 13 years of age and united with the Baptist Church of Strong City.
On April 30, 1942 he received an injury and was rushed to the Sayre hospital where all medical science and tender care failed to revived him, and departed this life on May 5, 1942 at 2:00 p.m.
He received his education in the Strong City school and spent his entire life with his parents on their farm south of Strong City.
He was engaged in farming and stock raising.
He was an honest, energetic young man, always ready to assist his friends in any way he could.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his parents, Mr. and Mr. A. C. Prestridge; four nieces, Mrs. Clyde McClellan, Hoover, Texas; Mrs. Lester Adams, Granite, Oklahoma; Mrs. Lester Summit, Crawford, Oklahoma; Mrs. D. H. Holley, Stinnet, Texas; and two nephews, Elwyn Kendall of Wichita, Kansas; and Jack Kendall of Granite, Oklahoma; two grand nieces and two grandnephews, Janet McClellan, of Hoover, Texas; and Lee, Colleen and Eddie Summit of Crawford, Oklahoma; one aged grandmother, Mrs. J. A. Cofer of Strong City; one brother-in-law, Ernest Kendall of Granite, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends.
One sister, Cletice Kendall preceded him in death seven years ago.
Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church at Strong City, with Rev. Carl Mabra conducting the services.
Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Brown, John Ezzell, Virgil Guernsey, Chester Minor, Herman Scott and Ell Hayden; pall bearers were Murl Hiatt, Oran Guernsey, Wade Hill, Delmar Robinson, Cecil Music and Frank Ezell.
He was laid to rest beside his sister in the Strong City cemetery, Strong City, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
The Tunnard Funeral Home of Cheyenne had charge.
He is gone but not forgotten.
Sweet thoughts will ever linger around the grave where he is laid.
