Stella Laverne Townsley was born August 7, 1932 near Reydon, Oklahoma to Inez Roxie Sanford and Arthur Lee Townsley. She passed away February 19, 2011 at Andover, Kansas at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 12 days.
Laverne started school at Midway, Oklahoma and then moved to Crawford where she attended school.
Later in life, she furthered her education at Sayre Junior College.
Laverne lived and worked in western Oklahoma most of her adult life. She owned and operated a grocery store, worked in doctor's offices and an insurance agency then later at the Beckham County Child Welfare office for 15 years before retiring at the age of 70.
She was proud of her children and grandchildren, putting a lot of miles on her car on the weekends between Elk City and Kansas attending school programs and sporting events.
She enjoyed vacationing with her family at Grand Lake, spending time with her siblings and the fellowship at holidays and special occasions.
She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and looked forward to phone calls from her brother, Pete after the game.
She also enjoyed OSU and OU ballgames and was so proud of Cade Davis playing for OU.
She was a member of the Second and Adams Church of Christ for many years. When she moved to Rose Hill, Kansas in 2007, she attended the East Point Church of Christ until her health prevented her from attending.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Inez Sanford Townsley; a great granddaughter, Haley McKee Vaughn; and a grandson, Kolby Keeth Lankford.
She is survived by her daughter, Charline Davis Beebe and husband, Jim of Rose Hill, Kansas; one son, Bobby Davis and wife Janette of Elk City, Oklahoma; three granddaughters, Lisa Mashnouk and husband Fadi of Wichita, Kansas; Lori Steiner and husband Scott of Andover, Kansas; Schalie Johnson and husband Jeremiah of Kansas City, Missouri; six great grandchildren, Kobi and Kori Mashnouk; Hayden, Jack, and Ganon Stein of Andover, Kansas; Claire Lankford of Vacaville, California; one sister, Margie Oaks of Hobbs, New Mexico; four brothers, Bob Townsley of Houston, Texas; Walter "Pete" Townsley and wife LaQuinta of Ft. Worth, Texas; Charles Townsley and wife Geraldine of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Ray Townsley and wife Carlene of Pueblo, Colorado; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Friday, February 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Whinery-Savage Chapel officiated by Rod Minor.
Burial will be at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.
