The people of Roger Mills county were shocked on last Monday afternoon, October 21, 1935 to learn that William Thaddeus Stauber of the Roll community had suddenly passed away from a heart attack.
Mr. Stauber with his family had been active in community and county affairs for the past 35 years. In his passing the county loses one of its good pioneer residents.
William Thaddeus Stauber was born near St. Catherine, Linn County, Missouri on January 11, 1871 and departed this life on October 21, 1935 at his home near Roll, Oklahoma, being at that time 64 years, 9 months and 10 days of age.
The deceased spent his early years near the place of his birth and it was here on April 4, 1894 that he was wedded in matrimony to Ida Coulson. To this union were born five children, two of whom, Olive Irene Tracy and Joseph Ott Stauber, preceded him to that land of eternal rest.
The surviving children are Mrs. W. R. Dykes of Perryton, Texas; and William C. and George P. Stauber of Roll, Oklahoma.
William T. Stauber in company with his wife and three small childdren came to Oklahoma November 27, 1901 settling on a place in this community which he continued to own and operate until the time of his passing.
Mr. Stauber has always been a militant disciple of the Saviour, a very kind neighbor and a loving and devoted father and husband. He leaves a memory that will be cherished as long as there lives a person who knew him.
His untimely passing is mourned by an unusually large number of friends and relatives, the latter including besides his prostrated helpmate and companion for forty-one years, Ida Stauber; an only brother, R. J. Stauber and family of Roll, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Mrs. J. B. Stauber and family of Noel, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Ott Coulson ands family of St. Catherine, Missouri; eight grandsons and one granddaughter. Also there to mourn his great loss, husbands and wives of his children, Rev . William R. Dykes, Mrs. W. C. Stauber and E. B. Tracy.
The body was laid to rest in the family lot of the Silent Home Cemetery of Roll, Wednesday afternoon.
Rev. M. A. Hawkins of Reydon delivered the funeral sermon in the presence of a large gathering of relatives and friends.
The Tunnard Funeral Home of Cheyenne had supervision of the burial ceremony.

IN MEMORY by Mrs. H. V. Jobe
The following was written of an old friend and neighbor, W.T. Stauber and was read on the occasion of his interment by the officiating pastor Rev. Hawkins.
I cannot say and will not say
That he is dead; he is just away
With a cherry smile and wave of the hand,
he has wondered into a Heavenly land
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be since he lingers there,
And you, oh you, who the wildest yearn
For the old time step and the glad return,
Think of him faring on, as dear
In the love of there, as the love of here;
Think of him still as the same, I say
He is not dead; he is just away.
We take this means of expressing our sincere appreciation to the many friends who have been so kind and thoughtful during the time of the burial of our loved one, W. T. Stauber. Your ministrations have been of great comfort.
