The people of western Oklahoma mourn the loss of a pioneer mother, an old settler, and a Christian saint.

Mrs. Ida Stauber of the Roll community near Crawford in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, passed away at 11:00 a.m. May 11, 1961 at the Cheyenne hospital.

Nearly 60 years ago she, her husband and three little children left their Linn County, Missouri home to become part of a tremendous group that pushed forth to settle in the Oklahoma territory.

This Stauber family possessed a courage and faith for a new home on the frontiers where for a few years they faced adverse conditions to establish a home. The faith of their fathers and the heritage that was given them, gave them the power to accomplish the goal they sought.

The first religious activities of this community were held in this Oklahoma home. Through the courage and faith of the people of this community they helped to carve out what we now have of western Oklahoma.

Ida Coulson Stauber was born January 30, 1876 near St. Catharine, Missouri in a two room log cabin.

She was married to William Thaddeus Stauber April 4, 1894.

They resided near St. Catharine, Missouri until they moved to Oklahoma.

To this union five children were born. Three are now deceased, namely Joseph Ott, Olive Irene Tracy and Emma Dikes. Surviving are William C. of Crawford; and George P. of Dumas, Texas. Her husband preceded her in death in 1935.

Other surviving relatives are two daughters-in-law, Inez and Pearlie Mae; a son-in-law E. B. Tracy; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Rev. Lloyd Martin and Rev. W. C. Vernon had charge of the funeral services held in the Crawford community building Sunday afternoon.

Committal was in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under direction of Scroggins of Cheyenne.
