Ben Snell was born February 15, 1934 northwest of Leedey, Oklahoma to Edith Pearl and William B. Snell. He passed away November 14, 2008 at Amarillo, Texas at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 29 days.
Ben started school at Liberty Center and moved with his parents to Towner, Colorado.
In 1945 they moved to Reydon, Oklahoma where he attended school. After school he moved to Colorado to work on a farm and help with the elevator.
He entered the United States Marine Corps and served his country until his discharge in 1958. He said serving in the Marine Corps was one of his proudest moments.
On January 17, 1959 he married Mary Lee Herring at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
After his discharge he operated a custom combining business with his dad and brother, Jim and later ran the North Station Elevator south of Wildorado, Texas. In 1974 he began farming in the Wildorado area for the next 5 years.
He later moved to Cheyenne and ran Joe's Cement Plant until 1982.
He was married to Luane Sue Stroup at Wheeler, Texas on March 2, 2000 and they continued to live in Cheyenne to make their home.
He was preceded in death by his father, and an infant son, Mark Anthony Snell.
Ben is survived by his wife, Sue of the home; two daughters, Dana Lynn Sides and husband, Gary of Canyon, Texas; and Tracy Dicon Snell of Sacramento, California; one son, Levi Shane Snell of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; four step children, Faron Ray Hyman and wife, Danetha of Elk City, Oklahoma; Lawanna Carol Roark and husband, Deryl of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Lisa Dawn Woods and husband, Carl of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; and Arlen Dalew Hyman and wife, Kaylyn of Weatherford, Oklahoma; his Mother, Edith Snell of Reydon, Oklahoma; four sisters, Christine Rudd of Amarillo, Texas; Mary Lou Jackson of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Sadie Burns of Del Norte Colorado; and B. K. Snell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother, Jim Snell of Reydon, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Cheyenne First Baptist Church officiated by Jeff Hurlbut.
Burial will be at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral service.
