Leona Inez Keahey was born August 27, 1920 in Crawford, Oklahoma to Mable Elizabeth Warren and Henry Hagan Beavin. She passed away December 6, 2008 at her home in Crawford, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 9 days.
Leona graduated from Crawford High School in 1938 and was married to Leon Arlen Keahey at Elk City, Oklahoma on October 12, 1940.
They lived in Borger, Texas until 1950 when they moved to Crawford to make their home.
Leona worked for Dobson Telephone for a number of years.
She later began working as a nurses aide at Newman Memorial Hospital for several years.
Leona was an avid quilter.
She and Leon loved to travel and had been in most of the states. Leona had just returned with her family from an Alaskan cruise when she fell ill.
She loved and cared for her many family members and friends.
She was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Kenneth; and one sister.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Betty Keahey of Crawford, Oklahoma; two daughters, Sandra Hammond of Oklahoma City; Ann Merritt and husband, J. E. of Crawford, Oklahoma; three sisters, Pauline Culmer of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Marguerite Baker of Durham, Oklahoma; Eva June Dickason and husband Rex of Crawford, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Mike Hammond, Kelly Brewer, Jackie Reagan, Clinton Keahey, Jennifer Whitson, Matt Merritt, Lisa Smith and Kevin Calvert; eleven great grandchildren, Allee and Ashlee Brewer, Brayden and Jessica Reagan, Kristen, Zack and Ryliegh Keahey, Shelbie Whitson, Julie, Jacob and Haley Calvert; a special niece that spent a lot of time at Leon and Leona's, Denise Burkhart of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Crawford Magnolia Baptist Church officiated by Father Carl Janocha and Rondal Kilgore.
Burial was held at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
