Sarah Adeline "Addie" Brothers was born on February 20, 1901 four miles south of Berlin, Oklahoma Territory in a half dugout and passed away July 27, 1991 in the Cheyenne Convalescent Home at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 7 days.
"Addie" was the third living child of Nancy Elizabeth and John Henry Taylor. She moved with her parents north of Berlin where they lived in a rock house.
She attended school at Bellmont and later worked as a telephone operator in the Berlin telephone office.
Addie married Charles Holden Brothers in October of 1921 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma and to this union were born four children; Josephine Elizabeth, John Everett, Phyllis June and Joseph Dixon.
They farmed in the Durham, Grimes, Reydon and Strong City communities. They owned a country store in Grimes and in 1934 they moved to Quilcene, Washington before returning to Crawford in 1936.
After Charles passed away, Addie moved to Sayre and lived near the Rose Hill community where she worked for Berlin schools.
During World War II, Addie lived in Edmond, Oklahoma and worked at the Douglas Aircraft Plant.
In October of 1945 she married her brother-in-law, Hembree Alan "Dick" Brothers in Edmond. They lived in Mooreland, Sayre, Louisville, Kentucky; Ft. Smith, Arkansas; Lawton and Elgin, Oklahoma before Dick retired from the military and they moved to Cheyenne, Oklahoma to make their home.
Addie was a member of the Christian Church, Eastern Star and American Legion.
She always had something nice to say to everyone. Her sense of humor delighted everyone who knew her, she made friends everywhere she lived and was a joy to know.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one infant son, one daughter, three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by one daughter, Josephine Daugherty and her husband, Oliver of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; two sons, John and his wife Sandra Brothers of Edmond, Oklahoma; J. D. Brothers of Burkburnett, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mayzell Brothers of Nicoma Park, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held Sunday, July 28, 1991 at 3:00 p.m. in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with A. L. Martin officiating.
Burial followed with Rose Chapel Funeral service in charge of arrangements.
Contributions may be made to the Lee Roark Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Security State Bank.
