Leroy Bowers was born March 6, 1926 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma to Carrie Addie and Frank Gross Bowers. He passed away October 17, 2016 at Altus, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 11 days.
Leroy grew up south of Cheyenne and attended school at Needmore and later graduated from Cheyenne High School. Shortly after graduating, he entered the US Army and served his country during World War II. After his discharge in 1946, Leroy returned to Oklahoma and helped on the family farm. He was married to Audrey Dee Jones at Cheyenne, OK on September 3, 1949 they lived south of Cheyenne for a short time until moving to the Roll community where they continued to farm and raise livestock. After retiring in 1998, they moved to Cheyenne where Audrey passed away in 2010. In 2012, Leroy moved to Altus, Oklahoma to be near his son. Leroy enjoyed hunting quail, fishing, playing dominoes and bingo.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Silent Home Cemetery or the Tamarack Road Church of Christ Food Bank in Altus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant son, a sister, Addie Mae, and 2 brothers, Raymond and Charles.
He is survived by his children, Robert Bowers and wife, Dana, of Altus, OK and Nena Kirk and husband, Ronald, of Cheyenne, OK; 6 grandchildren, Amanda Crisman, Andy Bowers, Megan Bowers, Morgan Helwer, Abby Kirk and Austin Kirk; 5 great grandchildren, James Crisman, Ava Chrisman, Fletcher Bowers, Josephine Bowers and Harper Helwer; and a host of other relatives and friends.
