Essie Leora Weast Bottom, was born to Tom and Irene Smith Weast, on January 27, 1909 on the Weast family farm northwest of Leedey. She passed from this life on Tuesday, March 6, 1990 in the Vici Nursing Home, where she has made her home since 1986, at the age of 81 years.
On November 11, 1956, Essie Leora Weast and Clyde Bottom were united in marriage at Hammon, Oklahoma.
The home was established and maintained in the area northwest of Leedey, until failing health made it necessary for her to move to the nursing home where she has spent these past four years.
Mrs. Bottom was a homemaker, interested in her home and its surroundings. She was especially fond of farm life. Horses were a favorite part of the farm and she also enjoyed gardening and club work.
She was a Fifty Year member of the Canadian Home Extension Club.
In 1952 Essie accepted Christ as her personal Savior, was baptized, and became a member of the Liberty Baptist Church. In 1960 she transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church of Leedey, which she attended as long as health permitted.
Mrs. Bottom was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Weast; her husband, Clyde Bottom; one brother, Lloyd Williams; and her twin sister, Lessie Butler, also two nephews, Cleo Butler and Tommy Weast.
She is survived by two sons, Ben Bottom and Clyde Bottom, both of Cheyenne; one daughter, Doris Bradshaw of McKinney, Texas; eight grandchildren, Rick, Bill, Agnes, Don, Sue, Tena, Lori and Brad; one brother, Marvin Weast of Stratford, Oklahoma; two sisters, Clystia Harrel and Alph Steward, both of Leedey; and one sister-in-law, Donna Jo Williams of Moore; thirteen greatgrandchildren; two aunts; seven nieces; six nephews, as well as other loved ones and many friends.
Funeral services for Essie Bottom were held Thursday, March 8, 1990 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Leedey with Rev. Forrest Weast and Rev. Sam Dyer officiating.
Interment followed in the Shirley Cemetery, Roger Mills County, Leedey, Oklahoma under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home.
