Steven Ray Tomberlin was born August 20, 1952 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Glenda Fern and Billy Ray Tomberlin.
He passed away March 25, 2013 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 60 years, 7 months and 5 days.
As a child, Steven moved with his family to the Alva community where he grew up. During high school he participated in football, track and tennis before his graduation in 1970.
After graduation, he furthered his education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University while helping his father on the family farm northwest of Alva.
Steven was married to Kay Vickers at Jet, Oklahoma on July 1, 1971 and they remained in Alva to make their home.
He continued working at the Shalloup Packing Company and eventually worked his way up to manager in 1983. In 1990 he was hired as the Alva City Manager and remained in that position until 2006 when he was hired by the city of Sayre as the City Manager. Steven continued with the city of Sayre until his retirement in November of 2010.
After his retirement, he started his own business, Tomberlin & Jennings Consulting L.L.C., obtaining grants for other city governments.
Steven enjoyed horses, quail hunting and camping but his most cherished time was spent with his family and grandchildren.
He served as a deacon at the Alva Church of Christ for 20 years and also as the secretary of the College Hill Church of Christ Bible Chair Development Board for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ben and Beaulah Bentley and Raymond and Velma Tomberlin.
He is survived by his wife, Kay of the home; three children, Chad Ray Tomberlin of Sayre, Oklahoma; Joshua V. Tomberlin and wife, Cindy of Alva, Oklahoma; Heath Ray Tomberlin and Misty Bryant of Alva, Oklahoma; and Javannah Boehme of the home; five grandchildren, Kevin Tomberlin, Blaine Tomberlin, Bentley Tomberlin, Cash Tomberlin and Cody Tomberlin; his parents, Billy and Glenda Tomberlin of Alva, Oklahoma; one sister, Machelle Wilson and husband, David of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four nephews, Ryne, Evan, Brooks and Brady Wilson; one sister-in-law, Linda Vickers and husband Gene of Neskowin, Oregon; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Sayre Church of Christ officiated by Matt Richardson.
Burial will be at Red Hill Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
