Funeral services for Hammon, Oklahoma, native Gertie Rennels, 87, were held Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. from the A. G. Creach High School Auditorium in Hammon, Oklahoma with Pastor Ridge Lamar and Dick Rennels officiating.
Interment followed in the Red Hill Cemetery of Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City, Oklahoma.
Gertie Mae Mooney Rennels was born March 22, 1920 in Purcell, Oklahoma, to Rev. J. W. Mooney and Kittie Miller Mooney, and passed away Sunday, June 24, 2007 at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City, Oklahoma.
She moved with her family to the Hammon, Oklahoma area in 1925, where her father founded the Hammon Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She graduated from Hammon High School in 1939.
She was married to Wade Warren Rennels on March 24, 1940, in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, and they had two sons, Ronnie and Danny. She lived in the Hammon area until the time of her death.
After completing LPN school she was employed by the Elk City Community Hospital, and taught nursing courses at the Burns Flat Vo Tech; however she is best remembered as serving as the Hammon School nurse for 20 years.
She was a faithful member of the First Love Christian Fellowship Church in Elk City. She dedicated her life to the Lord, and being a servant to all. After she retired, she volunteered many hours for hospice and made countless jean quilts for many people.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wade who passed away in 1991 after 51 years of marriage; her brothers, Orville, Harold, Roy, Murl and Everett Mooney; and her sisters, Mary Simmons and Pat Holloway.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Cindy Rennels of Clinton, Oklahoma and their family Brad and Peggy Rennels and their children Ashley, Austin, and Connor of Clinton; Pam and Bob Muncrief and their children Kyndall, Carter and Chad of Elk City; son and daughter-in-law Danny and Kerry Rennels and their family Ryan Rennels, Micah and Ashley Williams of Verden, Oklahoma; Laci and Mike Mullins, Jarred and Jordon of Blanchard, Oklahoma; beloved sisters, Mildred Dodson of Oklahoma City; and Doletta Blythe and husband Louis of Texas City, Texas; sister-in-law Ruth Mooney and Melrose Mooney; brother-in-law James Holloway; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Memorial donations in Gertie's name may be made to the charity of choice.
