Funeral services for Merton David Brown will be conducted Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the Martin Funeral Chapel with Rev. Doran Myers officiating.

Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home.

Merton David Brown was born August 10, 1909 in Hammon to Clarence Earl and Nettie Belle Palmer Brown and died Thursday at the age of 87.

He lived in Missouri, Colorado and California.

He was married to Ruth Mott on November 27, 1946 in Hamden, Connecticut.

He attended Yale University and after graduation they moved to California and Oklahoma.

He was ordained a minister in the First Christian Church {Disciples of Christ} in June of 1944 in Pomona, California. He served churches in Lodi and Sacramento, Californina and then became Dean of Admissions at Chapman University in Orange, California. He retired June 1, 1975 and moved to Elk City in June of 1995 and has lived here since.

He was a member of the First Christian Church {Disciples of Christ}.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of the Elk City home; one son, James Russell Brown of Fresno, California; one grandson, Joseph Russell Brown of Elk City; three nieces, June Warner of Hammon; Jean Johnson of Leedey; Quila B. Houghtaling of Huntington Beach, California; and one nephew, David Lee Mott of Anaheim, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clarence Earl Brown, Jr.

The casket will be closed after the service. Friends may call or come by the Martin Funeral Home until service time Monday.
