Funeral services for George Grayson Bottom will be conducted Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. from the Hammon Church of Christ with Gary Viginal officiating. Burial will be in the Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Elk City.
George Grayson Bottom was born October 9, 1924, at Gotebo, Oklahoma to Elwood and Annie Bell Gordon Bottom and died Monday, December 15, 2003 at the age of 79.
He was the youngest of nine children and lived most of his life in the Hammon area.
He married Allene Shewmaker on October 9, 1955 in Hammon. They were blessed with four children.
George graduated from Hammon High School in 1944.
He served in the Merchant Marines from May 1945 to January 1947.
George was a farmer and rancher most of his life. He raised registered Missouri Fox Trotters and was a member of the Missouri Fox Trotter Horse Association.
He retired from Roger Mills County as a Grader Operator in 1989.
He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Allene; sons, Earl Bottom of Hammon; Allen Bottom and wife, Jane of Mansfield, Texas; daughters, Paula Stafford and husband, Jim of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Jo Ann Reynolds and husband, Jeff; a sister, Alice Kauger of Oklahoma City; his mother-in-law, Buena Shewmaker of Hammon; five grandchildren; and numerous friends.
Memorials may be made in George's name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
