Funeral services for Bessie Ruth Allee Bailey will be held Tuesday, April 14, 1987 at 2:00 p.m. in the Strong City Baptist Church with Rev. Milton Gage officiating.
Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home.
Bessie Ruth was born July 28, 1902 in the Kiowa Community to Frank and Nora Allee and died in the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Saturday, April 11, 1987 at the age of 84.
She was raised in the Kiowa Community where she attended school.
She was married to Ocie E. Bailey on October 20, 1920 in Elk City.
They lived in a half dugout one mile north of the Kiowa School. They later moved northeast of Hammon where they lived for some 23 years. In 1945 they moved to Strong City where they had lived since.
She was a strong Christian woman. She was a friend to everyone and always tried to help everyone. It was said by one of her doctors when she was in the hospital that "She was one of the last of the pioneer women."
She had already purchased the seeds in preparation to plant her garden which brought her great pleasure to cook.
She was a longtime member of the Strong City Baptist Church and a member of the Strong City Quilting Club.
Bessie is survived by one daughter, Veneta Mae Orgain of Strong City; one son, Ocie Franklin Bailey of Cheyenne; one brother, Bob Allee of Elk City; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ocie Bailey on February 21, 1987, and also by one brother.
Casket bearers were Gary Scott, Wesley Harden, Clyde Bottom, Ivan Minor, Kenneth Hay and Andy Hall.
Honorary Casketbearers were Annie Allen, Louise Stamper, Ora Bell Leach, Carrie Scott, Alene Robinson, Alice Thomas and Bertha Scott.
