James Henry Alexander

James Henry Alexander was born in Tennessee January 22, 1869 and departed this life July 2, 1965.

He was united in marriage to Truley Jane Carpenter May 10, 1890 and to this union five sons and seven daughters were born. His wife, three sons and one daughter preceded him in death.

He was a long time member of the Church of Christ.

In 1893 he made the "Run" into Oklahoma and staked a claim in what now is Perry, Oklahoma. He helped build several buildings there. In 1899 he homesteaded north of Elk City and has made his home in western Oklahoma since, moving to Elk City about 25 years ago.

Survivors include six daughters, two sons, nine grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren, Mrs. Leta Stahl of Elk City; Mrs. Bell Ackley of Hammon; Mrs. Lois Hester of Sayre; Mrs. Ara Foust of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Mrs. Halcyon Hampton, of Joplin, Missouri; Mrs. Truly Peterson of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Marion Alexander of Palm Springs, California and Harmon "Shorty" Alexander of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Burial in the Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
