Funeral services for Mrs. Velma Lee Wright Ackley, 66, of Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 1982. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Hammon officiated by Rev. Bart Montgomery of the Highland Baptist Church of Albuquerque, New Mexico and assisted by Rev. J. C. Neil of the First Baptist Church of Hammon.
Mrs. Ackley died very unexpectedly Saturday, July 31, 1982 at Hillcrest Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Velma Lee was born near Kiowa, Oklahoma October 29, 1915 and attended Kiowa Country School and grew to womanhood in that area.
She was married to the late Emery C. Ackley on July 12, 1936 in Strong City, Oklahoma.
The couple made their home in Hammon, Oklahoma area and raised their four children there.
Mrs. Ackley cooked for the Hammon Public Schools for many years and was employed there at the time of her death.
Mrs. Ackley was a very faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Hammon and attended to the Church nursery for several years.
She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge #261 of Butler.
Burial was in the Red Hill Cemetery south of Hammon, Oklahoma, Roger Mills County under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton, Oklahoma.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Doyle {Floretta Joe} Seright of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Mrs. Leon {Mary Katherine} Gilliland of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Sidney {Alta Ann} Bergeron of Gray, Louisiana; one son, James Theodore {J.T.} Ackley of Sayre, Oklahoma; and one sister, Mrs. Kattie B. Ackley of Live Oak, California.
She is also survived by six grandchildren, Katherine Ann Dearman of Oklahoma City; David Andrew Seright of Oklahoma City; Leanonna Kaye Gilliland of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Jodie Michelle Ackley of Sayre, Oklahoma; Kristy Lynn Ackley of Sayre, Oklahoma; Dustin Paul Bergeron of Gray, Louisiana; two step grandchildren, Charles Ross Gilliland of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Suzie Gilliand Conley of Oklahoma City; two step great grandchildren, Angie Gilliland of Kansas and Brandy Conley of Oklahoma City.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetic Fund of Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
