Mrs. C. B. {Lura C.} Stockton, 1417 Rural St., died October 23, 1979 at St. Mary's Hospital in Emporia, Kansas. She had lived in Emporia since 1937 and for 25 years, she and her late husband, Bernice Stockton, operated the old Sunset Inn at Soden's Grove.
She was an avid citizens band radio operator, known for many years by her "skip" name of Bat Lady.
She was a graduate of Emporia State University and a former member of Alpha Sinma Alpha sorority.
Services in the Blair Mortuary were held Friday, October 26, 1979 at 10:30 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Stephen J. Williams. Burial was in Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Lura Christina Rhoads was born August 30, 1917, to William A. and Betty Habeck Rhoads. Her father died when she was only one year old, and she was later adopted by C. C. Fitzgerald, her mother's second husband.
The Fitzgeralds lived in Arkansas City from 1930 to 1937 when they moved to Emporia.
Lula Fitzgerald married C. B. Stockton in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas on October 20, 1939. Mr. Stockton died April 4, 1979.
Mrs. Stockton is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Danny Rosenquist, 1417 Rural St.; and her step grandmother, Lillie Habeck of Reydon, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Stockton was a member of the United Methodist Church and helped with Sunday School Classes for 14 years.
She was a member of the Miriam Chapter 14, Order of the Eastern Star.
She formerly was a member of the auxiliary to United Transportation Union and has served on the Lake Kahola Advisory Board.
