Funeral services were scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 1994, at the First Southern Baptist Church of Lamar, for Harvey F. Drake, Sr., 76.
He died Tuesday, April 5, 1994 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta, following a lengthy illness.
Rev. Larry Maxwell and Rev. Kenneth Lyles will co-officiate at the services and full military graveside honors were given by the St. George S. Creaghe, Jr., Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3621 of Lamar.
Interment was at Fairmont Cemetery under the direction of Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel, Lamar.
Mr. Drake was born November 12, 1917, at Grimes, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Kathryn Louise Drake of the family home in Lamar; one son, Harvey F. {Dixie} Drake Jr., of Garden City, Kansas; three daughters, Roberta Francis {Charles} Roach of Chelsea, Oklahoma; Sandra Kaye {Gerald] Slagle of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Sheri Lynn {John} Stafford of Pueblo; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Drake of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; his mother, Julia Drake of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sisters, Edna Young of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Alma Bradley of Bethesda, Maryland; and three brothers, Oran Drake of Colorado Springs; Elton Drake of Berlin, Oklahoma; and Paul Drake of Las Animas.
He is a former Cheyenne, Oklahoma resident. He graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1937.
He was active in sports.
He served in World War II with the U.S. Army and Thunderbirds and in Sicily, Italy, France and Germany.
He was employed by BEZ Public Schools in Lamar, Colorado and Lamar Community College. He owned his cleaning business in Manhattan, Kansas and had formerly done dredging in California.
He has resided in Lamar for 25 years.
