Lieschen Friedrichsen was born December 4, 1916 in Kiel, Germany, to Martha and Fritz Dogen John. She passed away August 28, 2004 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 24 days.

Lieschen attended school in Kiel, Germany. During World War II she worked in a Red Cross Hospital. Food was scarce and Lieschen would sneak food to the American POW's in the nearby prison camp; knowing that she would have been killed if she was caught.

She was married to Herman Friedrichen at St. Peter, Germany on July 1, 1944. After Herman had survived 2 1/2 years in a Russian Prison Camp they continued to live in Germany before moving to the United States.

They arrived in Oklahoma on Herman's aunt's farm in the Sunny Point community on December 12, 1951.

In 1955, they began to farm and Herman was a carpenter that built several homes and worked on the Flamingo Restaurant in Elk City.

They later moved to their own farm and were successful growing wheat and cotton.

In 1958 they applied for citizenship and took their test at the Beckham County Court House. They passed and became citizens of their adopted country.

Several years after Herman passed away, Lieschen moved to Elk City to make her home.

She was a member of the Elk City Christ Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Survivors include Dixie Spencer and her familly; and Donna Davis and her family; and a host of other friends.

Services will be held on Monday, August 30, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Elk City Christ Lutheran church officiated by Everett Dunn and William Geis.

Burial will be at Mulberry Cemetery, Sweetwater, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service, Elk City, Oklahoma.
