Marion Palmer “Pete” Bateman of Brady, TX moved on to the next phase on Wednesday, September 25, 2019.
Pete was born in South Bend, TX to
Marion and Minnie Bateman.
He started school in Ibex, TX and later Albany, TX. He graduated
high school from Guymon, OK. At 17, he joined Air Corps from
1945-1947. He married Katherine Allen in 1949 and they were blessed
with four children. Pete received a Bachelor’s Degree from Panhandle
A&M and a Masters from West Texas State University. Pete was in the
school business for over 50 years. His professional life included
time as a coach, teacher, superintendent, and special education
director. He loved his family and former students and football
players. He also loved airplanes, flying, horses, and horse racing.
Pete enjoyed anything you could place a wager on…from football to
horse racing.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, wife Katherine, brothers
W.S. Williams, Leroy Williams, and John B. Bateman, and his
daughter, Nancy Kay Dunlap.
He is survived by Karen Goodwin, who gave him 15 extra years of life
filled with love and laughter. She has been an amazing caretaker and
companion until the very end.
He is also survived by daughter Mary Rylander and husband Rick; sons Pete Bateman, John Bateman and wife Kelley; grandchildren Scott Dunlap, Kelly Smith, Traci Steward; Lori Dunlap, Ryan Rylander, Drew Rylander, Cory Rylander, Katie Kneale, and Jordan Bateman. He also has 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for October 19, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Fairview Cemetery in Durham, OK. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
