Obit for Ophelia posted by Vicki Corbin

Ophelia Ella Maltby was born to Milton and Ella Maltby, March 21, 1887, in Goff, Kansas, where she grew to the age of 13. After the death of her father, the family left Kansas by train and settled on a farm east of Cheyenne in 1901. One of her greatest talents was that of home maker. She delighted in her home and in her family. She performed the common place tasks of everyday living in a calm, quiet and serene manner. She made of her home a place of beauty, a haven of rest and love and a place of serenity. She was a happy joyous person, one who laughed easily. By virtue of her inner strength she effected the quality of the day.

In the final hours of her life she had great concern for the welfare of her husband and her children. She told them of her love and of her abiding faith in her Lord, and advised her family to continue strong in the faith. Friendship was one of her finest qualities. She tried always to be kind and helpful, patient and loving. In her home, in her church, in her community is abundant evidence of her love, faith and reverence. Today the strength of her love bridges the years and bears the fruit of immortality. She gave her heart to the Lord at the age of 15 and joined a Baptist Church and has been a devoted Christian since. Through her witnessing, many lives have been influenced for the Lord.

Left to mourn her passing are five daughters: Madge Allen, Sweetwater, Okla.; Pearl Giddens, Spearman, Texas; Hazel Reeder, Amarillo, Texas; Lorraine Mills, Aumsville, Oregon; Vesta Lee Lewis, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and five sons: R. Bruce, Hyattstown, Maryland; Homer, Inglewood, California; Sam (USN), San Diego, California; H. Harold, Redding, California; and Bill, Dumas, Texas, Three brothers: Charlie Maltby, Desdemona, Texas; Grover Maltby, Arkansas City, Kansas; Ike Maltby, Elk City, Oklahoma; and one sister, Lelia Haggerty, New York State; forty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

In 1904, she met and married R. Bruce Jones, who preceded her in death in 1956.

She was the mother of 12 children. Two of them have preceded her in death, a daughter, Kate Ella Hensley, and a son, Clifford Maltby Jones.

Funeral services were held at the Reydon community building Friday, 2:30 p.m. September 14, 1962, with Rev. Lynn Heard of Sayre, her former pastor, officiating and Rev. C.R. Shaw assisting.
