Claude Edward Skelton died at his home last Sunday morning after an illness of three weeks from typhoid fever.
Funeral services were held at the Christian Church of Elk City and also at the Berlin cemetery on Monday, September 7, 1925 with Rev. C. H. Lemmox officiating.
A very large crowd was in attendance at the services. Many beautiful flowers were sent as toke of love and sympathy.
Claude E. Skelton was born in Stoddard County, Missouri, January 15, 1894 and died in Elk City, September 6, 1925; age 31 years 7 months 21 days.
In 1900, at the age of six years he came to Oklahoma with his parents Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Skelton and where he received his education in the Berlin school.
He moved to Elk City in 1915.
On June 14, 1916 he was married to Miss Lana Seaton and to this union was born two boys, Roy Edward, five years and John Willburn, nine months of age.
Claude served twenty one months for his country during the World War, ten months of this time he was in training at Ft. Worth, Texas and eleven months was spent in France; he was discharged June 19th, 1919.
Besides his parents, wife and children he leaves two brothers, John and George, both of Elk City; and a number of relatives and a host of neighbors and friends to help share their sorrow. He had one sister, Maude Pearl Skelton.
Claude was a good young man, was loved and respected by all who knew him. He attended Sunday School at Eden View, a number of years, always on time and very attentive to his lessons and was loved by his class which was the young people Bible Class, his teacher being Mrs. Creason.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. C. H. Lemmox, burial was in charge of W.O.W. and American Legion. The ritual of the W.O.W. was carried out as was the military honors of the American Legion.
