John William Shirley, 68, pioneer resident of Berlin died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Carmichael Saturday morning, January 9, 1932.
Mr. Shirley had been in ill health since in April but his condition was not thought serious until Friday night when he became dangerously ill.
He came to this section of the country from Missouri in 1900 and resided on a farm near Berlin from then until the time of his death.
He married Mattie L. Crawford December 12, 1888 in Audrain, Missouri.
Survivors are Mrs. Mattie L. Shirley, Lester Shirley and two daughters, Mrs. Frank Carmichael and Mrs. Frank Brewer; as well as other relatives and numerous friends.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church here Monday morning and at the Berlin church Monday afternoon with burial in Berlin cemetery.
