Sonia B "Sonny" Davis

Mr. Sonia (Sonny) B. Davis, 90 years, of Talihina passed away Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Talihina Veterans Center.

Sonny was born on July 16, 1922 in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma to the late Ira O. and Willa B. (Milligan) Davis. He was a member of the Prairie Grove Baptist Church in Talihina, Oklahoma. He married Fredia I. Davidson on February 13, 1946 in Paris, Texas. She passed away May 4, 1980. Sonny married Betty (Lancon)Burns on March 28, 1981 in Talihina, Oklahoma. She passed away on January 11, 2008. Sonny served in he U.S. Army for over 22 years, retiring in 1963. He was a World War II veteran who served on the island of Corregidor in the Philippine Islands. He was captured in May 1942 and was a prisoner of war of the Japanese for three and half years. He returned to the United States in 1945. During his Army career he served in Arkansas, South Carolina, Texas and California, overseas assignments were in Italy, Germany and Taiwan, retiring as a E-8. After retirement he worked in security for the Los Angeles Times newspaper, later in property management for Great Lakes Corporation in Palos Verde, California, and he also worked for the Talihina Veterans Center in Talihina, Oklahoma. He also served for Senator Boren's military Commission. Sonny was a member of the Masons for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives; Fredia I. Davis and Betty Davis, and son, Bob Burns.

He is survived by sons; Sonny and Rebecca Davis of Kingsville, Texas, Brett and Cynthia Burns, Sr., daughters; Sandra Garcia of Phoenix, Arizona, Gail and Mickey Waddoups of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Sabrina Detter of Muse, Oklahoma, Gina and Kenny Gregson of Talihina, also 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Pallbearers for the service will be Larry Baxter, Kyle Griffith, Brett Burns, Jr., Colton Burns, Gary Reamy, and Donny Sisk. Honorary pallbearers, Jack Bates, Alvin Branscum, George Humphreys, Paul Long, Travis Washington, Mrs. Hali Humphreys, Josh Kilbane and Roy Griffith.

Services will be held at the Talihina High School Auditorium, Tuesday, August 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Cecil Holcomb and Rev. Don Taylor officiating.

Interment will follow at the Old Town Cemetery, Tuskahoma , Oklahoma under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
