Lew Wentz Akard, Sr.
Lew Wentz Akard Sr. passed from this life January 19, 2014 in Hot
Springs, Arkansas at the age of 82. He was born August 10, 1931 to
Roy and Adjie (Pullen) Akard in Moyers, Oklahoma.
Lew was a member of the United States Army and served his country
during the Korean War. He was retired from the Oklahoma State
Highway Department. He enjoyed welding as well as cutting and roping
horses. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and especially
his great grandchildren. He was very well known as a storyteller and
known to embellish those tales to get a laugh out of people. Some
things people may not know about Lew is he was a great singer and
could whistle like a bird. He was also a very caring and gentle man.
Lew is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Adjie Akard.
He is survived by son Wentz Akard & wife Tracy of Hot Springs, AR;
daughter Lea Ann Rynders & husband Steve of Hot Springs, AR;
daughter Kea Hampton & husband Bobby of Hot Springs, AR; brother
Benny Akard & wife Pat of Wagner, OK; nine grandchildren: Lew Wentz
Akard III, Andrea Akard, Steven Rynders, Taylor Gigerich, Ashley
Dean, Haley Hampton, Kelly Hickman, Matt Hampton and D’Ambra
Hawkins; 18 great-grandchildren; first wife Betty Jean Akard of Hot
Springs, AR and second wife Doris Hunt Akard of Waco, TX as well as
numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a
host of friends.
Pallbearers include: Lew Wentz Akard III, Steven Rynders, Brent
Gigerich, Bobby Dean Hampton, Blake Hickman, and Steve Rynders.
The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Denise Morris,
Terry Dean & Stephanie Miller, Shane Miller, Cindy Akard, Royce
Cravy, Gerald Dennis, and the entire staff of Jim Ray’s Quick Stop.
