William Douglas "Doug" Helm

William Douglas Helm passed from this life on May 25, 2022, at the age of 84 in the Claremore Veterans Center.

Doug was born on October 11, 1937, in Antlers, Oklahoma, the son of Newman and Nannabelle (Roland) Helm. Doug grew up in Finley, Oklahoma attending school in Antlers later graduating with the Class of 1955. Following high school Doug joined the United States Navy in 1959. During his time in the Navy Doug met and was later united in marriage to Barbara Margaret Steinjann on October 13, 1962, in New York. Due to Doug's position with the Federal Aviation Administration, Doug and Barbara with their family resided in numerous locations including Alaska, St. Thomas, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas as an Airways Facility Manager. In 1990, Doug was transferred to the Tulsa Sector Field Office. Doug and Barbara at that time moved to Cleveland where they continued to reside for many years. Doug was very active in the Masonic Lodge and Shriners. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and current member of the Hebron Lodge 315 in Cleveland. He was also a member of the Antlers Masonic Lodge 39 and Harmonic Lodge 356 in St. Thomas. Doug was a Akdar Shiner for years and helped with the transportation with children and families to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. He always enjoyed going to the meetings and enjoyed the fellowship. Going to Tunica was always memorable times for he and Barbara.

Survivors include two sons Doug Helm, Jr. and his wife Heather of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tom Helm and his wife Lou of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren David Helm, Matthew Helm, Kaitlyn Jones, Mary Helm, Ryan Helm, Joshua Helm; three great granddaughters Kiera Helm, Ellie Jones, Genevieve Helm and numerous other relatives and friends that will mourn his passing.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents Newman and Nannabelle Helm, stepmother Elvie Helm and wife Barbara Helm.

Services will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, June 10, 2022, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in the Finley Cemetery in Finley, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
