Martha Lea McMahan passed peacefully from this life on April 19, 2018, in Antlers, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years old.
She was born to Robert L. and Ola Ruth (Collett) Maxey on March 5, 1930, in Farris, Oklahoma. Martha married Wayland E. McMahan on June 1, 1948, in Antlers, Oklahoma. They started their life in Antlers, then moved to McAlester, then to Oklahoma City where they lived for thirteen years. In 1969 Martha and Wayland moved back to Miller, Oklahoma, where they made their home. Together they enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage. Martha enjoyed sewing and taking care of her home and was also a member of Oklahoma Extension Homemakers. She received the Homemaker of The Year Award in 1988, the Pushmataha County Heart of HCE Award in 2002, and was the OKDHS Volunteer Award recipient in 2011. She was also a proud member of the Miller Baptist Church. Martha was a very hard worker and active in the community. She was employed at the Bronco Cafe, Woods Brothers Grocery, and spent 22 years working in Recreation at the local Antlers nursing homes. Martha was on the Election Board for the Miller community for 18 years. She was a beloved aunt, great aunt and great- great aunt; and was the glue that held her family together.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Ruth Maxey; sister: Wanda McMahan; brother-in-laws: Leroy Dyke and Bobby McMahan; and a nephew: Danny Paul Davis.
She is survived by her husband: Wayland E. McMahan of the home; brother: Robert "Bud" Maxey and wife Dorothy; sisters: Betty Couch and husband Boyce, Jackie Davis and husband Pat, and Lynda Dyke; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a host of loving friends.
Services for Martha will be held Monday, April 23, 2018 at Darwin Baptist Church with internment to follow at Darwin Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Dennis McMahan, Jeff McMahan, James McMahan, Jacob Troy, Daniel Troy and Cecil Walker.
