Richard Adams a resident of Durant, Oklahoma joined his Savior in McKinney, Texas on Wednesday January 3, 2018 at the age of 75. He was born in Le Flore, Oklahoma to Leo and Myrtle (Jack) Adams on December 15, 1942. Richard was married to 1st wife Yvonne Sue, and 2nd wife Mary Lou.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 23 years. He is a member of Grace Baptist Church in Calera. In his earlier years and after retirement Richard was a member of Thessalonian Baptist Church in LeFlore. While in the service he attended the First Southern Indian Baptist Church in Bells Garden, California for many years. Richard started working for the Choctaw Nation in 1999 in the Language Department as a Community Language Teacher, and later became the Assistant Language Director until his retirement. He had a passion for the Choctaw language, culture, history and hymns. Richard loved his families very much, always there for them. He always enjoyed attending any family gathering or instigating one. With his good humor he always kept families laughing especially when he would talk to us in Choctaw.

Mr. Adams is survived by his daughters, Karen Sue Johnson of Durant, Oklahoma, and Katie Faith Adams of Durant, Oklahoma; grandson, Matthew Tvshka Brandenburger; sisters, Marie Jackson of Le Flore, Oklahoma, and Laura Mackey of Red Oak, Oklahoma; and brother, Daniel Lee Adams and wife Rotha of Le Flore, Oklahoma.

Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Myrtle Adams; wives, Yvonne Sue and Mary Lou Adams.

Family hour is from 6-8:00 PM Sunday January 7th at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma.

A funeral service shall be held at 2:00 PM Monday January 8th at the Choctaw Capital at the Arts and Craft Center in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma with Rev. Wayne Bailey and Bro. Olin Williams officiating.

He will be laid to rest at the Choctaw Nation Veteran Cemetery.
