Mary Elizabeth Pierce
Graveside services for Mary Elizabeth Pierce will
be held on Friday, September, 2016, at 10:00 am in the Pierce Family Plot in
Antlers Cemetery in Antlers, OK. Mary passed away on Saturday, September 17,
2016, in Cherokee, NC at the age of 101.
Miss Mary Elizabeth Pierce was born December 23, 1914 in Antlers, OK, the
daughter of Robert Lee and Maude Mae (Wood) Pierce, OK. She had lived 97 years
of her life as a resident of Hugo, in the same home since she was seven years
old. Mary never married and devoted her life to teaching children. She taught
the second grade, and retired after teaching 30 years at the Horace Mann
Elementary School Hugo, OK. Mary was a life-long member of the First Baptist
Church in Hugo, OK where she taught Sunday School for many years.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. R. L. and Maude Pierce; sister,
Celeste Devine Anderson; brothers, George H. Pierce, Leroy Pierce and Leonard
Pierce.
Mary is survived by nieces;
Susan Pierce-Brintnall of Whittier, NC, Maudeen Pierce-Harden of Wynnewood, OK
and Darlene Pierce Watashe of Kellyville, OK; nephew, Leonard Lee Pierce and
wife, Mary of Joyce, WA; great-niece, Mary Elizabeth Brirnall Monahan of
Columbia, TN;-great-nephew, Michael Douglas Brintnall and wife, Elaina of
Brentwood, TN and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews from half
dozen of the United States.
