Samuel Perry Williams

November 1, 1938 - February 17, 2014

Samuel Perry Williams age 75 of Wanette, Oklahoma passed away Monday, February 17, 2014, at Norman Regional hospital in Norman, OK.

Sam was born November 1, 1938 in Chickasha, Oklahoma the middle child of three born to Claud Bert Williams and Jean Carrington (Floyd) Williams.

Soon after his younger sister Hallie was born, they moved to Yucaipa, CA. Later Claud's work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers took them to Anchorage, AK for a time, where the family built a log cabin. They returned to California, where Sam was a star football player at Redlands High, graduating in 1957. Sam attended OSU on a track and field scholarship, was an accomplished singer, and as a freshman was asked to sing in an elite men's group.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and proudly served during the Vietnam war. After his honorable discharge in 1967, he spent various years in California, and both he and Claud returned to Alaska several times, near Anchorage and Point Barrow, where Sam worked as an aerial surveyor. In the late 1970s, Sam managed a survey crew in the country of Jordan, helping to build the Maquarin Dam. Sam then moved to Wanette, Oklahoma to help his parents on their farm. Always a skilled horseman, Sam helped to raise and train quarter horses and thoroughbreds for many years, and took care of his parents in their advancing age. Later in his life, Sam lived in town and enjoyed spending time with old and new friends, including his beloved Molly, the loyal chocolate lab. He loved painting, woodworking, singing and playing guitar.

He is preceded in death by: Parent: Claud and Jean Williams, Sister: Hallie Jean Sternberg, Brother: Charles Williams,

He is survived by: Nephews: Nick Sternberg, Doug Williams, Mike Williams, Jeff Williams, Niece: Karen Williams

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Wanette Cemetery Chapel in Wanette, OK.

Arrangements are with Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell, OK.
