Billy B. Shannon Sr, age 82 of Wanette, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019, at the Norman Health Plex. Billy was born December 27, 1936 in Tribbey, Oklahoma, the 5th of 8 children born to Charles Herbert Shannon and Juanita Mae (Aker) Shannon. Billy attended Trousdale Schools, graduating with the Class of 1954. After graduating, Billy moved to Okla. City where he worked A.J. Jeffries Truck Line for a couple of years. He then married his best friend and life partner, Dorothy Gelene “Jean” Keesee on December 22, 1956. They first made their home in Okla. City, and then Choctaw for 17 years. Together they raised 3 children, Butch, Charlotte and Jeff. Billy worked for Manly Office Supply in OKC for many years, but his entrepreneurial heart would lead him to own his own business. . In 1989 they moved to his family farm N.W. of Wanette and purchased the Taylors Grocery & Feed. He later changed the name to Bill’s Grocery & Feed and operated it for 24 years. He enjoyed his customers and just being around people. When not working, Billy enjoyed hunting, everything from pheasant to quail to hogs. He loved being in the outdoors and stayed active on his farm raising cattle and horses. When his son Butch was young, Bill was his little league coach. Bill was a man of great faith; and a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and Shriners in Okla. City. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by: His son, Butch Shannon; His parents, Charles and Juanita Shannon; 2 sisters, Mary Gregson and Charlene Sanders and 3 brothers, Royce, Herbert and Jerry Shannon.
Bill is survived by: His wife, Jean Shannon of the home; Daughter, Charlotte Effinger and husband Arnold of Wanette; Son, Jeff Shannon and wife Cathy of Kilgore, TX; Sister, Ronda Smith of Purcell; Brother, David Shannon and wife Connie of Norman; Brother-in-law, Johnny Keesee and wife Gail of Wanette, 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at the Wanette Cemetery Chapel in Wanette. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell. Send online condolences @ wilsonlittle.com. SERVICES
