Charles Edward Sales, Sr., 95, Shawnee, Oklahoma, lifetime Pottawatomie County resident passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023 in Shawnee.
He was born November 2, 1927 to Irving and Susie (Bates) Sales in Wanette, Oklahoma.
Charles graduated from Asher High School where he was active in sports and chosen All-Star Basketball Team. After high school he attended Oklahoma City University.
He married Voneta Lou Gillock on October 4, 1952 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2021.
Charles proudly served his country for three and one half years in the Armed Forces including combat duty in Korea with Oklahoma's 45th Division where he earned his Combat Infantry Badge.
He worked for Sears from 1984-1991 as the Auto Center Manager, Shawnee Auto-Mart from 1980-1984 as a salesperson, McQuerry Used Cars from 1979-1980 as Auto Detailer and Mechanic, Shawnee Tire Sales from 1976-1979 as Manager, and from 1966-1976 he owned and operated Sales Service Stations for Texaco and Mobil Oil Companies, and from 1952-1966 worked for Tinker Air Force Base in shipping and receiving, ending his career as Inventory Specialist.
Charles enjoyed working, being outdoors, gardening and trying to re-purpose items and he loved going to Church at Living Love Christian Center in Shawnee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Voneta Sales; grandson, Jared Sales; his parents, Irving Sales and Susie Sales; brothers, Oliver White, Perry White, and A.T. Sales; sisters, Wanda Newby and Annabelle Huckabee.
Those left to cherish his memory are daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Steve Conrad of Guthrie, OK; sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Stephanie Sales of Choctaw, OK and Curtis and Lynda Sales of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Jason Sales and Justin Sales; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2023 at Wanette Cemetery Chapel with Reverend Mark Guinn, Living Love Christian Center, Shawnee, OK officiating. Burial will follow at Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
