Wanda Fern Newby, 87, of McLoud, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021 in Tecumseh.
She was born August 24, 1933 to Irving and Susie (Bates) Sales in Konawa, Oklahoma.
Wanda was raised in Asher, Oklahoma and graduated with the class of 1951 from Asher High School, where she excelled in Basketball and traveled all over with the St. Louis Cardinals Basketball team including Mexico. She lived most of her adult life in McLoud, Oklahoma.
She married Bun Charles Newby on February 14, 1990 in Oklahoma City and he preceded her in death on December 18, 2007.
Wanda worked for Western Electric, later working in clerical for S.W. Bell and AT & T until her retirement.
She was an extremely talented and gifted singer, singing with her sister, Ann and traveling with the Grand Ole Opry they were known as the Singing Sales Sisters, performing with Minnie Pearl and also on the Jude and Jody Show. Wanda was a gifted athlete in Basketball and Softball and an excellent bowler and was a member of the Women’s Bowling League. Her family was very important to her, she loved her children very much, but her granddaughters were the light of her life and she always loved taking care of them and spending time with them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bun Newby; son, David Eugene Hudlow; her parents, Irving and Susie Sales; sister, Annabelle Huckabee; brothers, Oliver White, Perry White, A.T. Sales and infant brother and sister.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle (Barrett) and Larry Goins of Shawnee, OK; 3 granddaughters, Sydney and Cody Stevenson of Alexandria, VA, Colby Reed of Shawnee, OK and Marley Reed of Shawnee, OK; 1 great-granddaughter, Scarlett Stevenson of Alexandria, VA; 1 brother and 1 sister-in-law, Charles and Voneta Sales of Shawnee, OK; and other extended family and friends; including Joe Reed the father of her granddaughters who was very special to her.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 22, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home and continue through service time. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Larry Goins officiating. Burial will follow at Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
