Deward Hudson, age 84 of Wanette, passed away Monday, February 17, 2020, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital South.

Deward Wayne Hudson was born September 28, 1935 in Trousdale, OK, the 2nd of 5 children born to Raymond and Jessie Hudson. He was raised in Lexington and attended school there, graduating with the Bulldog Class of 1955.

Deward joined the United States Navy and served his country proudly. While on leave, he crossed the bridge into Purcell one night to drag Main St. By chance, he happened upon a local girl named Ila Harper. It was love at first sight, and they followed their hearts and were married on June 5, 1958 in Purcell. They first made their home in Purcell, and later in Lexington for a short time, before settling near Wanette in the mid 1970’s, where together they raised their only son, Benny.

At the time, Deward was working as a pumper in the oil fields and owned Hudson’s Service Station in Wanette for many years.

Deward’s heart was always back home at the ranch, where he enjoyed spending his days raising Brangus cattle. Deward was a family man first; he cherished Ila, enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately renamed him, “Pop”. Deward loved eating out and traveling to visit family daily. He was a man of great faith, and a long time and faithful member of both, Wanette and Asher First Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and was certified to preach the Gospel. Deward was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a good friend to many. He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Jessie Hudson and two brothers, James Earl Hudson and Darrel Hudson.

Deward is survived by his loving wife, Ila, of the home, his son, Benny Hudson and wife Jeminesse of Wanette, 3 Grandchildren, Adam Hudson and wife Crystal of Wanette, Steven Hudson and wife Sondra of El Reno and Randi Hudson Skender and husband John of Wanette, Sister, Barbara Croslin and husband Clifford of Lexington, Brother, Jimmy Hudson and wife Terri of Purcell, 8 great grandchildren, Marcus, Benjamin, Elyse, Clayton, Lane, Hudson, Mitchell and Levi, and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 21, 2020, at the Wanette First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Wanette Cemetery. Send online condolences @ www.wilsonlittle.com.
